Introducing… Sell My Wedding – buy and sell pre-loved wedding items

A new website has been launched which aims to “turn one bride’s something old into another’s something new.” is the only site in the UK dedicated to the buying and selling of used or pre-loved wedding items. You can sell everything to do with the big day from the dress to dressing the reception.

Sellers have to pay £20, but it’s a one off fee and for that you can list as many wedding items as you want, for as long as you want. Even better, the £20 sign-up fee is being waived for the first 100 private sellers.

I asked founder Rebecca Aspin to choose some of her favourite items listed on the site. Take a look at these gems – and the prices!

Channel 1940s glamour with this white lace off shoulder wedding dress featuring a vintage brooch. £150.

Bridal hairband made from vintage brooch. £30.

15 versatile mirrored centrepieces. £15.

80 ivory and white paper lanterns – perfect for transforming any marquee or village hall into a wedding wonderland. £160.

This vintage-style 1940s hair comb was the first item to be sold on the site. The original cost was £135 but one bride snapped up a bargain for just £40.

Rebecca, of Beverley, East Yorkshire, said: “As a newlywed myself I was looking for a way to share all the beautiful items and fabulous finds from my wedding with another bride.

“Sell My Wedding puts newlyweds who are looking to recoup some of the cost of their big day in touch with brides-to-be who are not only looking for inspiration but a way to make their wedding affordable.

“Unlike other websites that specialise in selling second hand wedding dresses Sell My Wedding lists everything to do with weddings; from veils to vases. It also features items for the whole wedding party from grooms to pageboys, ushers, bridesmaids to the mother-of-the bride.

“In an age where people are more cost conscious and ethically aware brides and grooms are looking for ways to keep the cost of their wedding down.”

The benefit for brides-to-be is that if they know what they are searching for they can search by category or theme.

It’s a new site, so there are empty categories, but keep an eye on it – as well as the fabulous finds featured here there are already three wedding dresses listed for under £300.

I think Becca is onto something.

Recent research suggests the average amount couples spend on their wedding is coming down. Leeds-based compared data from more than 2,000 wedding insurance policies and concluded the cost has dropped from £20,000 in 2008 to £15,500 in 2011.

The internet certainly helps budget-savvy brides shop around for the best deal, find low-cost extras and accessories and great tips and resources for those who want to try their hand at DIY.
