Theatre lovers wed on stage at historic Yorkshire music hall

For Leeds theatre lovers James King and Chloe Wilkinson there was only one place for their wedding ~ on stage at the city’s City Varieties Music Hall.

The ceremony on Friday, conducted by One Life Weddings, was a first for the historic venue and took place between two live shows.

Bride Chloe said: “We both love theatre and the City Varieties is steeped in so much history – it has such charm and a timeless beauty about it.

“When we saw it refurbished we were blown away – we’re so glad it has kept its original look and feel. And the fact that the theatre is in the heart of the city is important to us because we’re both Leeds born and bred.”

Of course the wedding had theatrical touches ~ James made his entrance to the Star Wars theme tune and Chloe to Brian May’s version of the Wedding March.

The bridesmaids wore black, 1950s-style dresses with bright red shoes and matching red lipstick and the groom and his groomsmen wore red Converse trainers with their black suits.

The guests watched from the stalls and the wedding party joined the couple on stage. At the end of the ceremony Chloe threw her bouquet as the curtain dropped.

There were drinks in the theatre’s Circle Bar before the wedding party moved on to Nash’s Fish and Chip restaurant.

Chloe added: “It was such a beautiful day, absolutely perfect in every way. I’m so pleased we did it this way, it really reflected mine and James’s personality.”

Leeds-based One Life Weddings ~ there will be more from them on this blog soon ~ specialise in writing and conducting personal wedding ceremonies that can be held in any venue or location.

Co-founder Laurra Nalty explains: “We work with couples who want to hold their wedding in an unusual or unlicensed venue and want their ceremony to reflect their personality.

“We wrote Chloe and James’s ceremony around them; they chose exactly what they wanted it to include.”

The paperwork was completed at the register office.
