Real Yorkshire wedding… Sara and Patrick: why not Christian Louboutins for your ‘something blue’?

Sara and Patrick wanted a simple, intimate wedding ~ but several personal and imaginative touches made it anything but ordinary.

Stylish Sara wore fab blue Christian Louboutins, a knee-length Audrey Hepburn-style satin and tulle dress ~ which, unbelievably, you can pick up for around £100 ~ and a birdcage veil, made by her mum.

The Grade I listed 18th century Cusworth Hall near Doncaster, South Yorkshire and its parklands provided a stunning setting, and I love the idea photographer Lisa Pitchford had to incorporate Patrick’s treasured double bass.

Sara said: “It was a very low key and intimate wedding with just close family members attending. We didn’t want a huge fuss and made every effort to keep it as simple as possible.

“I loved the fact that my ‘something blue’ was a pair of Louboutin shoes. Various people tried to talk me out of it, but I’m glad I stuck to my guns as I think they looked fantastic with my dress and I received lots of compliments about them.”

Patrick gave Sara a gift of pearl earrings on the morning of their wedding. The tag read “still the prettiest girl here”, which was the first thing he said to her when they met 18 years ago.

After the wedding, guests had champagne and enjoyed cake pops while the newlyweds strolled around the hall’s stunning parkland.

Afterwards, the wedding party moved on to Cadeby Inn, near Doncaster. One of the couple’s favourite additions to the reception was a ‘now and then photograph board’ which proved to be a real ice-breaker.

Sarah’s advice for other brides looking to keep their wedding costs down is to “research, research, research”: “Don’t be afraid to buy online – we managed to ave a great deal of money by doing that. Also make the most of your families’ skills!”
