Fashion fix… Yorkshire dressmaker creates Kate Middleton-inspired wedding dress for modern bride

Yorkshire dressmaker Linda Davey has created a version of Kate Middleton’s vintage-style wedding dress that she thinks is better suited to the modern bride.

Linda designed and made the dress, named ‘Tuscany’, after being invited to be part of a project with leading wedding photographers Damien Lovegrove and Chris Hanley. The pair spent a week teaching photographic techniques at the secluded Villa Sermolli, a 16th century privately-owned palace near Pisa, Italy.

These beautiful images are by Martyn Norsworthy.

Soon, it’ll be seven months since the world caught a glimpse of the gown Kate would wear to marry Prince William. It was one of the most waited-for moments in wedding history.

The gown ~ similar to that worn by Hollywood actress Grace Kelly when she married her Prince in 1956 ~ is still a talking point and Kate is certainly not alone among brides in looking to vintage styles to inspire her look.

Almost as soon as the royal couple had said ‘I do’ imitation dresses were being sewn around the world.

But renowned dressmaker Linda, of No 9 Bridal Couture, which is headquartered on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales in Keighley, West Yorkshire, doesn’t think brides will be rushing out to buy their own version of Kate’s dress.

She thinks that, while it was appropriate for a future Queen, most brides would feel too conserative with their arms and shoulders covered. Her own version offers a dash of Kate’s princess look and uses elements Linda adored.

The gown isn’t for general sale but will be available as a ‘limited edition’ piece.
