Discover Yorkshire Yurts

A yurt you say? It’s a circular wooden framed tent structure with a lattice wall and cone shaped roof. The outer fabric shell of the yurt can be made of felted wool, coated canvas, or a modern architectural fabric.

Yurts are often used in retreats because they are thought to aid healing, meditation ~ and dreaming.

Yorkshire Yurts is owned by Tom Stearne and based near Ripon in North Yorkshire. Their yurts are 17ft or 33ft in diameter and, as well as being used for wedding receptions, can be hired for festivals, corporate parties and dinner parties. Inside, they can be adapted and decorated to suit your needs ~ you can even sleep in them.

Yorkshire Yurts come with an oak door, groundsheet and carpet. But you can hire extras to set the scene like sheep skin and cow hide rugs, lanterns, tables, futons, a wood burning stove and a fire wok.

♥ See the yurts set up and decorated at two open days ~ Friday 9 (1-7pm) and Saturday 10 December 2011 (11am-4.30pm), at The Old Deanery, Minster Road, Ripon, North Yorkshire, HG4 1QS

The company also hire yurts for holidays ~ visit the wonderfully titled ‘Yurtshire‘ website for more details.
