Real Yorkshire castle wedding: Becca and Charlie

Becca and Charlie planned a low key and understated wedding… but then they fell in love with Allerton Castle, a magnificent 18th century gothic castle near Knaresborough in North Yorkshire.

Allerton also has 200 acres of parkland and gardens. Unfortunately with non-stop rain there was no opportunity for the wedding party to explore the outdoors, but the castle’s opulence made for a fabulous backdrop to Yusuf Ozkizil’s photographs.

Becca said of their venue: “I’ve always loved 1920s and 1930s vintage so it was great to find somewhere that fitted that so well, it really just gave us a theme to plan round and made it quite easy to choose things to fit.”

Becca describes herself as “not exactly bridal” but spoke highly of her “fantastic” dress designer Sally Lacock. “I absolutely love my dress and I can’t imagine having found a better one. Her dresses are beautiful and they were just the right side of actually being a wedding dress while not causing me to have a meltdown in the shop – unlike one memorable moment when the assistant in a bridal shop tried to put a veil on my head (she didn’t make that mistake again…!)

“Sally was practical without making me feel like I was on some kind of conveyor belt, and she has a great sense of style that really comes through in the way she puts the dresses together. She is pattern cutter by trade, so there aren’t endless fittings. I would recommend Sally and her dresses to anyone.”
